Blue River members have been supporting efforts in India for decades. We are proud to partner with our brothers and sisters in Christ who are working in dramatic ways to expand the Kingdom of God in the Indian languages of Telugu and Oriya. We have sent Blue River representatives several times over the years to encourage the churches there and to maintain a personal connection with the work, rather than a purely financial connection.
Satya Vani Correspondence Courses
The center of our support has been paying the salaries of the workers in the Satya Vani correspondence course ministry in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. Under the leadership of Joshua and Ricky Gootam, Staya Vani reaches out through radio and television, inviting people to write in and request a correspondence course. Courses are sent out within 24-48 hours of receiving the request. After the courses are sent back and graded, the students receive a free Bible and are directed to a local congregation. Many thousands have been reached by this ministry. Blue River has also purchased thousands of Bibles to be sent at the completion of the correspondence course, and these Bibles are used in churches all over the state of Andhra Pradesh and Orissa.
Church Buildings and Bicycles
Blue River has helped to build 7 buildings for rural congregations. These buildings have been sources of strength and encouragement to the Christians there, providing places for evangelism and service in the community, stability in places of persecution, and shelter in times of storms and flooding. Another encouragement to the local congregations in the countryside has been purchasing dozens of bicycles for preachers that travel and minister to as many as 4 or 5 congregations each Sunday.
Kakinada Children's Home
Blue River was honored to participate in the building of a children's home on the third floor of the Kakinada Church of Christ to house over 75 children. Ricky and Sudeepa Gootam run this ministry with love, compassion, and godly discipline. Many of these children are growing up to be leaders in the church. We also send money for one of the children's daily meals. Other congregations also support this work.
